Young adventurers are invited on an enthralling exploration of CRYPTIDS and other curious creatures. We'll embark on an exhilarating journey into the weird and the wonderful, delving into the mysterious realm of legendary creatures while nurturing each student's passion for discovery and learning. Each session unveils a new American cryptid, ranging from the elusive Chupacabra to the legendary Jersey Devil, sparking the imagination of budding cryptozoologists. Through captivating storytelling, immersive videos, and interactive discussions, students unravel the myths and legends surrounding each cryptid, exploring its origins, sightings, and cultural significance. At the heart of the experience lies the creation of a personalized field guide journal, where students will document their findings, sketch sightings, and record intriguing facts about each cryptid. This hands-on activity fosters creativity, critical thinking, and scientific inquiry, empowering participants to become stewards of their own cryptozoological knowledge. Printed fact sheets and coloring pages will be provided to add to their journals, which will serve as a keepsake for our adventures together. But the adventure doesn't end there! Engaging games, trivia and quizzes, and hands-on activities abound, transforming each lesson into an exciting quest. From cryptid-themed puzzles to interactive scavenger hunts, students sharpen their problem-solving skills while unraveling the mysteries of these elusive creatures. In addition to studying the cryptids themselves, participants embark on virtual expeditions across the United States, tracing the footsteps of these mythical beings across the map. As they pinpoint the locations of reported sightings and delve into the rich history and folklore of each region, students gain a deeper understanding of the cultural tapestry that weaves America's cryptid lore. Led by passionate educators dedicated to nurturing curiosity and exploration, Cryptid Collectors' Club promises an unforgettable learning experience that sparks imaginations, fosters critical thinking, and cultivates a lifelong love for discovery. Learning Goals
While the main focus will be on allowing young fantasy enthusiasts to share their love of curious creatures, legends, and mysterious monsters, we will also be practicing important social skills and academics. We will learn about habitats, adaptation, and other STEAM concepts. We will develop mapping skills and learn about local geography, terrain, and history. The creature lessons will provide a fun, approachable framework for these discussions and will help the young explorer to build and develop observation, recollection, and communication skills, as well as foster curiosity, wonder, and interest in the world around them, big and small, real and imagined. The field guide will serve as a fun keepsake and reference for future fantasy studies and reflection.
