Class Experience

US Grade 1 - 4
Beginner Level
While this class is a FLEX/pre-recorded typing course, it is VERY INTERACTIVE due to the Nearpod activity slides (which I check and provide feedback to individual learners)!

BENEFITS of flex format with Nearpod:
*type the drills at your own pace
*parents and teachers can monitor activity slides/drills.
*can break the lesson up as you see fit (doesn't have to be done all in one sitting - just start where you left off in Nearpod)

PARENTAL GUIDANCE will be necessary (to one degree or another, depending on learner-age and speed with which the learners grasp new concepts).

*Please be aware this is a 1-WEEK BOOTCAMP (this class is also available in a 5-week format) which may go TOO FAST for some learners (although you DO have access to the course materials after the first week).

This course is intended to be a “beginners” course for this age group. After this course, the learners can continue to practice the typing games we do in this course and improve accuracy and speed on their own. They can also choose to take my 8-lesson typing/keyboarding course when they are of age (that course is for ages 10-16 and is intended to bring learners from beginners through advanced level). Lastly, I have a new "Keyboarding 2" class which provides further practice.

ASSIGNMENTS INCLUDE:
*Lesson Video
*Nearpod slides (learners will type into Nearpod and do the fun activity slides as they watch the lesson video)
*Typing Games! Learners will play games within Nearpod and also on their own time for additional practice.

Learning Goals

Students will develop typing accuracy (matching fingers with correct keys) and begin to increase speed. Students will be able to type using 3 types of input: written word, dictation, and their own thought-processes (typing unique sentences and a paragraph). Students will begin to develop memorization of the keyboard so that they can begin to type without looking at the keys. Students will develop foundational typing skills required to further improve after the class is complete.

I took a semester-long, comprehensive typing course at the age of 16, and a college level computer course which required learning advanced key-functions. My one-minute speed test result is 72 words per minute and I have had many jobs which require a lot of typing. My mom went to secretarial school in the 60's and she types 90 words per minute! She gave me several “typing class” tips during the development of this class. Thanks, mom! :)
