US Grade 4 - 7
Don't let them stop reading over the winter break, GIVE THEM A READING GOAL! A Wrinkle in Time is one of the great works of literature for kids. Besides being an exciting story, its messages of individuality, nonconformity, friendship, and courage have inspired generations of readers. It is also book 1 of a series so when kids fall in love with the book, they will want to keep reading. And reading is more fun when you can discuss the book with friends. I have been in a book club for over 25 years and have run book clubs for kids for as long. My goal for all students is to foster a love of reading. I also love encouraging family book reads. This is a great book for families to read together as well. During class, students will be engaged by questions to incite the conversation. We will discuss the book allowing them to share their opinions and thoughts. Throughout the class, students I will also engage students in reading comprehension questions including main idea, inference, character analysis, sequence of events, author purpose, and more. Upon enrollment, students will receive a Vocabulary Building Through Reading and Chapter Notes Worksheet. **Reading the book ahead of time is required. Here is a link to the book - A Wrinkle In Time by Madeleine L'Engle https://amzn.to/3ZkLYgf Although I have vetted the book, I understand that what I choose may not be appropriate for all students. Therefore, I encourage all parents to research the book. I like to use www.commonsensemedia.org to make sure a book is a good fit for the class. Please check out the books yourself as well. If a student is signed up for my class, it means the parent approves of the book. After class, I will also send a book review as well as some more questions for the students if you want to have them extend our class. I am a kind, encouraging teacher who works hard to engage all students in my class. We do offer many other book clubs so check those out! Here are a few reviews of my other book clubs. Feel free to check those out as well. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ "The teacher does a great job connecting to the kids, listening to them all, their ideas and inviting them to express their views on the books openly." R.F. "My daughter enjoys this class. It is a chance for her to engage with other students around their thoughts of the book. She has the opportunity to reflect on the book and state her opinions. It is an excellent class to encourage reading, and to deepen analysis skills." A.R Happy Reading!
