Class Experience

This weekly class will give intermediate students practice speaking, reading, writing & listening to Spanish. Each week a new grammar concept will be discussed and practiced using all four modalities of language. Through the lens of Hispanic culture and language exploration, students will be encouraged to build strong study habits and diverse learning tools to support them as they reflect on their language-learning journey.

Second language learning offers an unparalleled opportunity to build strong executive functioning skills and self-confidence - especially when the learner is encouraged to constantly reflect on their habits and goals, and the environment is supportive and fun.

Small class sizes allow plenty of time for students to ask questions and for me as the instructor to allow student interest and curiosity to guide our learning.

Students who have completed both of my beginner level Spanish classes "Project-Based Learning Spanish: Mi Familia!" and/or "Project-Based Learning Spanish: Me Gusta Comer!" will feel very comfortable in this intermediate class and will further deepen their comprehension & confidence with Spanish language & culture!

Profile
Teacher expertise and credentials
I have a BA in Elementary Education and an MA in Bilingual & Multicultural Education.

I lived in Mexico with a host family as an exchange student in college and attended El Universidad Autonomo de Querataro where I took daily classes in conversation & culture. After more than 8 years of studying Spanish as a student in the United States, this experience solidified my bilingualism.

I have been a classroom Spanish teacher for more than 10 years.

I believe that second language learning is most effective when kids get to use their creativity, learn how to best use the resources available AND have the opportunity to make choices about their learning.

I have been studying Spanish for more than 20 years. English is my first language and as a second-language learner, I understand the challenges of persevering through frustration AND the brain-based (and professional!) benefits of sticking with it!
I attended El Universidad Autonomo de Queretaro in Queretaro, Mexico as a college student and took classes in conversation & culture. I lived with a family while attending university.

I include culture education in all of my language teaching because I believe it's important to build a holistic understanding of your new language, its history, and its people.

I have been an online teacher for more than 5 years and I love the challenge of helping kids build confidence with online learning. I challenge myself to continually reflect on my methods and utilize research and best practices to keep my instructional methods fresh and student-centered.

Kids today can learn anything that they set their minds to thanks to the freedom of the internet. I believe it's important to build the skills for them to be curious, careful and competent internet learners AS WELL AS bilingual world citizens!
