Class Experience

Feelings of anger, anxiety and frustration impact all of us at some point or another in our lives. The important part is learning to recognize these feelings and being equipped with skills to handle these feelings. If children can learn these skills at a young age, they will be set up for much more success as they get older. In this class, we will talk about what it feels like to be angry and anxious. Students will learn to recognize the signs and signals of anxiety and anger, so they will know when it happens. We will also discuss ways to cope with these feelings. We will practice mindfulness and calming exercises in class, so that we can be prepared for these real feelings and triggers.

There will be three main components to this class:

1. What is anger? What is anxiety?
Students will learn the definition and signs of how your body feels when angry and/or anxious. Students will be able to recognize when they are starting to get angry or anxious.

2. What can we do about these feelings?
Students will learn and discuss ways of how they can deal with anger and anxiety such as talking with an adult, writing, drawing or deep breathing. We will practice some of these skills in class.

3. Students will make an art piece. They will draw a feelings image and chart that shows areas or signs of anger/anxiety and they will write or draw a picture of what they will do when they get angry or anxious.
