US Grade 2 - 5
Beginner Level
Through the guided drawing process, students will learn how to use simple lines and shapes to create popular Christmas characters in Kawaii style (Japanese origin; the term means "cuteness") The five characters we will concentrate on in this class are: a gingerbread cookie, a bell, a tree, an ornament, and a familiar grumpy character. Be sure to enroll your child in part 1 for five different characters as well!. My teaching style involves breaking the process down into smaller, easy-to-follow steps. I pace the class according to the needs of the students; if needed, I give fast finishers a break, allowing students who need more time to complete their work, the time to do so, and even then, finishing before class ends is NOT the objective. Because there are five characters, we will focus in class on drawing first, then coloring. Some students may need to finish coloring theirs after class is over. My classes are intended to be fun, informative, and a safe place to take artistic risks and make mistakes--that is experimentation, which artists do all the time! At the end of class, students will be invited to share their creations no matter what their progress is.

As a licensed art teacher, I have developed techniques for breaking down drawing lessons into simple, easy-to-follow steps. Once we get the basics done, I give my students freedom to complete their project using their own imagination, thereby giving them the opportunity to take what I have taught them to a different, fun and creative level.
