What's more fun than playing with your favorite Jurassic Park or World toy? Sharing your favorite Jurassic Park or World toy with friends while learning and chatting! Join a paleontologist and science fiction fan for a "roarsome" show and tell! Don't have a favorite Jurassic Park or Jurassic World toy? Bring a dino drawing! We'll see real fossils and hear stories about what it's like to be a paleontologist, too! This class is great for junior paleontologists who want to share their love of Jurassic World, Jurassic Park, or dinosaurs in general. Students will have the opportunity to speak with their peers, learn about the thrilling field of paleontology, and ask a real paleontologist questions. The class format will include: 1. Introductions - Let's all take turns introducing ourselves. Share what you brought, tell us why it interests you, and learn something new about it from a paleontologist and movie fan. (15 to 20 minutes) 2. See real fossils and learn about science fiction versus science fact. We’ll discuss a lot of our favorite Jurassic and Camp Cretaceous dinosaurs! (15 minutes) 3. See what it’s like to be a paleontologist and learn what tools we use to dig up fossils. (10 minutes) 4. See some family friendly, behind the scenes footage of Jurassic Park and Jurassic World. We’ll discuss trivia from the movies, too! (10 minutes) 5. Ask a paleontologist questions about dinosaurs and the Jurassic movies. (Remainder of class)
Learning Goals
Students will socialize and share over science. Students will practice their public speaking skills while talking about what they love. They will also learn about the field of paleontology with some movie magic!
Other Details
Supply List
Students do not need to have seen the films to learn, have fun, and participate. Sharing your favorite toys, souvenirs, or drawings is great, but a love of dinosaurs is all the student really needs to enjoy this class. Any media from the films will be family friendly!
External Resources
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Teacher expertise and credentials
Hi! My name is Miss Elizabeth and I have been working in public science education for over 20 years. I have worked in the fields of paleontology, ornithology, entomology, and zoology. I look forward to sharing my experiences and passion for knowledge and discovery with your child!
I was a paleontological assistant at a dig site in the Badlands of Montana where I instructed tourists of all ages about fossils, the operation of the dig site, and general dinosaur facts. I also assisted with excavations and scientific documentation of fossils.
I trained with wildlife rehabilitators and have rescued and cared for many animals, including hawks, eagles, foxes, owls, and even skunks! I raise and release beneficial insects, like butterflies, mantises, and ladybugs. I love teaching about the amazing world of nature that surrounds us, even in our own backyards.
I was a science educator at a children’s interactive museum. My duties at the center focused on teaching children of all ages scientific concepts through hands-on learning experiments, demonstrations, and live animal interactions for museum visitors.
I was a guest lecturer for a science lecture series for high school students and also for local scout troops (for children aged 5-14). In my lectures, I taught about the process of fossilization, evolutionary paleontology, and taxonomy.
In addition to my scientific pursuits, I am a huge science fiction, Star Wars, Marvel, Jurassic Park, Disney, and rock music geek!
Let’s learn, explore, imagine, and make friends together!
