Class experience
Let's share our favorite things together! This is an introductory course designed especially for preschool, PreK, and Kindergarten learners. Each week will have a special theme to help students narrow down their choices. Learners are encouraged to bring 1-2 items each week that they want to share with the group. Throughout this class, we will use many different approaches: sharing, discussion, games, and other positive interaction. We will grow and practice our developing social skills, classroom or group learning skills, communication and presentation skills, and more. We will practice: *taking turns *public speaking *following directions *asking for help *asking questions related to the topic *giving positive feedback to our peers *dealing with frustration and impatience *teamwork and emerging friendship skills *kindness and empathy *building confidence
Shiny Happy Kids teachers have been working with students ages 3-18 in a variety of settings, from art schools and STEAM labs to libraries, summer camps, forest school, and even RPG game tables. One thing we all have in common is a dedication to creating safe, positive, inclusive spaces and experiences where kids can connect, experiment, be challenged, share their passions, and just be their wonderful selves. We want you to SHINE! From Miss Ashley: I have always loved to work with young children! Ever since I was a kid, I was very creative in coming up with unique ways of expressing myself. That uniqueness carried over into my adult life, and that is what brings me here today! I love being a part of a child’s yearn to learn and I believe that learning is always fun. I’m a mom to two amazing kiddos, both currently in elementary school. Before having my kids, I had 7 years experience in working with children primary-aged through elementary school. I was an assistant Pre-K teacher followed by working at various summer camps through my local Parks & Recreation department. I’ve worn many hats throughout life but my favorite one is being a mom. I love my wonderful husband, my amazing kiddos, my 3 crazy cats, sewing and gardening.

Bring your show-and-tell items and think of 2-3 things you would like to share about them. Student may also be requested to bring some of the following on a week-by-week basis (posted as an update weekly in the classroom posts): Creative "maker" supplies such as drawing supplies, paper, blocks, magnetic building blocks, snap-together construction blocks, modeling clay or play dough, dice, or other common household items. Substitution ideas are always available upon request and no student will ever be unable to participate due to missing supplies. (please note: Playdough MAY contain wheat or gluten and families should be sure to avoid it in case of allergies. A gluten-free recipe and options are available upon request.)
Although the learners will be allowed to choose their own show-and-tell items, final approval will be provided by the teacher as to whether those items are age-appropriate and meet Outschool's safety guidelines. Please help your child to select items that you think would be a good fit for the class. Conversation may be steered gently away from controversial topics (such as guns or violence, for example). Regarding supplies and activities: All physical activities are age and developmentally-appropriate. No physical activities are ever required, and the teacher will provide alternatives methods of participation whenever needed, at the parent's discretion.
