Class Experience

US Grade Kindergarten - 3
HOORAY! It's time for the first-grade kickball tournament! Only, here's the problem. Junie B. Jones has hurt her piggy toe and she can't play on the team. Read with us to find out what she does instead!

Each class will include a short video presentation (10-15 minutes) on our chapter of the day and our activity. I will be reading and discussing the story "Junie B.: One Man Band." If you have the book, feel free to read along with me! After each class, students will have comprehension questions. This class provides a great opportunity to practice reading a chapter book and work on reading fluency/comprehension all at once! At the end of the book, students will create a poster or similar project to advertise the book to someone who may want to read about Junie B. Will they convince someone to read the book or tell them to stay far away from the book?

We'll create a fun illustration each week to show what the chapter was about. Students will complete the worksheet I send out and use it to write/draw. Students will interact with the class through the discussion posts on what we learned each week. We'll also have submission threads for students to submit their work and give each other great feedback on our illustration of the week.

*Students will share their illustrations on the submission thread on the classroom page. You can do this by creating the picture on the computer or taking a picture and sharing the file.

Day 1: Chapter 1 readaloud and illustrate the watering can from the story.
Day 2: Chapters 2 readaloud and tell us about a time someone impressed you or you impressed someone else.
Day 3: Chapters 3 readaloud and draw a picture of what your prediction is for chapter 4
Day 4: Chapters 4 readaloud and Junie B. look-alike. What does she look like? Create a look-alike outfit or draw a picture.
Day 5: Chapter 5 readaloud and create your favorite character in the story (can't wait to see it!!)
Day 6: Chapter 6 readaloud and draw a picture of yourself. Use 3 words to describe yourself and write them on your picture.
Day 7: Chapter 7 readaloud and create a video/picture of what you think Sheldon looks like when he sings (be creative!)
Day 8: Chapter8: readaloud and draw a picture of/ or create a costume for Juni B. Jones
Day 9: Chapters 9 readaloud and review what an "advertisement" is as well as examples of advertisements. I will post several pictures of advertisements in the classroom.
Day 10: Share book advertisements (final project!) Should others read this book? What was your favorite part? (See bookproject examples in class documents).

New lessons will be uploaded on Monday and Wednesday of each week. I will expect all participants to be active in our discussions on the "classroom" page. I will facilitate and extend conversations and provide regular, consistent posts in the classroom. I will send feedback on journal entries and assignments.
Parents will purchase the book so that the students can read along with me.
