EVERBODY IS WELCOME!!! Fire up the grill! Brush up on your history. Read excerpts of the Emancipation Proclamation aloud. Play some games. Eat and drink red foods to celebrate June 19th! This is a social gathering and opportunity to celebrate Emancipation Day also known as Juneteenth. Juneteenth is a day that commemorates the events of June 19, 1865. We will celebrate with food, music, art, and games. Students will have time and materials to prepare for class. The party go as follows: What to Expect: Students will be given videos, coloring pages, and articles BEFORE CLASS Students will bring food and drink to class Students will share a meal and conversation Students will learn about the Emancipation Proclamation Students will learn about the General Order No.3 Students will share the symbolism and facts about the Emancipation of enslaved African descendants Students will learn about the Black National Anthem, "Lift Every Voice & Sing" Students will play games Parental Involvement or Assistance(as needed before class) What to Bring: Coloring pages Handouts Food and drink(red items preferred) Please contact me if you are interested in another date or time. Parental Guidance
This holiday is based on the emancipation of formerly African descendants in the USA. It is a celebration for all Americans and can be acknowledged by other countries and cultures. The class will provide limited information about enslavement via a video to be watched before the class. The actual celebration not focus on enslavement but on the Juneteenth holiday. Please apprise your students on enslavement in the United States, racism, and the US Civil War. You may want to address any negative emotions that this topic may stir up.
There are links to YouTube in this class. Please monitor your learner's internet access and availability to other materials on the internet. I will issued the game links a day before the party. You may want to help your student procure food and beverages for this class. It would be helpful if your discuss
