The more they read, the more they learn, the more they will learn in the future. This cannot be overstated. ๐ In this Language Arts class, we hit reading hard! It is appropriate for those who love reading AND for reluctant readers, as the regular schedule helps them. Students journey through literature, reading one book every two weeks. Learners will discover a fresh set of ๐ฒ๐ ๐ฐ๐ถ๐๐ถ๐ป๐ด ๐๐ต๐ฒ๐บ๐ฒ๐, ๐ฝ๐ผ๐ฒ๐บ๐, ๐๐ต๐ผ๐ฟ๐ ๐๐๐ผ๐ฟ๐ถ๐ฒ๐, ๐ฎ๐ป๐ฑ ๐ถ๐ป๐ณ๐ผ๐ฟ๐บ๐ฎ๐๐ถ๐ผ๐ป๐ฎ๐น ๐๐ฒ๐ ๐๐ that explore the depths of human emotions and experiences. Our purpose remains steadfast: to ignite a love for reading while cultivating essential language skills, critical thinking, and powerful communication. As we explore favorite literary works, students encounter themes of ๐ณ๐ฟ๐ถ๐ฒ๐ป๐ฑ๐๐ต๐ถ๐ฝ, ๐ณ๐ฎ๐๐ฒ, ๐ณ๐ฎ๐บ๐ถ๐น๐, ๐ป๐ฎ๐๐๐ฟ๐ฒ, ๐๐๐ฟ๐๐ถ๐๐ฎ๐น, ๐๐ฎ๐ฐ๐ฟ๐ถ๐ณ๐ถ๐ฐ๐ถ๐ฎ๐น ๐น๐ผ๐๐ฒ, ๐๐๐ฟ๐๐ถ๐๐ฎ๐น, ๐ด๐ฟ๐ถ๐, ๐ฎ๐ป๐ฑ ๐ฝ๐ฒ๐ฟ๐๐ฒ๐๐ฒ๐ฟ๐ฎ๐ป๐ฐ๐ฒ, sparking reflections and engaging them in discussions. In a comfortable classroom environment, students will confidently express their responses to literature with insight. Our students will develop a love for reading while exploring the human experience captured within literature. We embrace the importance of beauty in its various formsโbe it in the author's craft, thematic depth, or immersive settings. We hope this class leaves a mark on the hearts and minds of your learners. ๐ฅฐ โ๏ธ ๐ช๐๐ก๐ง๐๐ฅ ๐ฆ๐๐ ๐๐ฆ๐ง๐๐ฅ (๐๐ต๐ถ๐ ๐ฐ๐น๐ฎ๐๐): Friendship & Fate--Holes by Louis Sachar Grit & Friendship--Gregor the Overlander by Suzanne Collins Perseverance & Love--The Cay by Theodore Taylor Survival & Hope--Hatchet by Gary Paulsen Leadership & Nature--The Call of the Wild by Jack London Community & Perspective--The Eyes and the Impossible by Steven Engelfried **If you take semester A in the fall... ๐ ๐๐๐๐ ๐ฆ๐๐ ๐๐ฆ๐ง๐๐ฅ: Community & Outsiders--The Outsiders by S.E. We follow best practices in this area with how we design class time, assignments, and routines. According to Pennington Publishing, effective writing feedback (or grading) is: โข Specific, not general โข Immediate, not postponed โข Routine with a revision / feedback cycle โข Explanatory โข The right amount โข Targeted to the most critical issues โข Varied (written, audio, and video comments) โข Holding students accountable ๐ฉโ๐ซ YOUR TEACHER & A FREE CLASS: Nervous about the commitment to an entire semester? We offer a one-time reading comprehension class that lets you test out a teacher and how we teach. If you take that class, we will offer a coupon for a semester ELA class worth the enrollment fee of the reading class, essentially getting the one-time class for free. Just reach out with an email! Ages 11-12: https://outschool.com/classes/reading-for-understanding-kids-a-6-step-approach-to-reading-and-paraphrasing-a-text-e5lcv2lF?usid=0BAnv5zn&signup=true&utm_campaign=share_activity_link Ages 13-14 https://outschool.com/classes/reading-for-understanding-a-6-step-approach-to-reading-and-paraphrasing-a-text-FtXMQBAT?usid=0BAnv5zn&signup=true&utm_campaign=share_activity_link ๐ฅ To see teacher introduction videos, go here: https://youtu.be/vHavD9LJ_gg ๐ฐ A Quick Note on Why Ask for Full Payment Up Front: Outschool has a new class payment system, where parents can pay weekly for a semester class. This is helpful for the pocketbook! However, students can unenroll if their schedule changes. If a class falls below the minimum enrollment, teachers may cancel it, leaving remaining learners and their parents in the lurch for a class! We want to offer a consistent learning experience in our semester courses, so we commit to running the course all semester, and learners commit to remaining enrolled. We charge less per class in semester classes because of the upfront investment. A guaranteed semester allows us to build on content and do long-range projects and essays. It also allows us to build a special community of learnersโand itโs a little hard to say goodbye at the end! We also offer ongoing middle school English classes, which are wonderfulโjust different. Hopefully, this helps you understand how our semester classes differ from others that offer weekly payments.

In The Cay by Theodore Taylor, the main character shows racist behavior and uses racial slurs. This is an important aspect of his character because he grows to understand he was wrong and learns to love. He quite literally becomes blind in order to see.
