At the end of class, learners will find out what to expect for the next class.

Week 3 - Learners should read "Class Act" completely before class. We'll discuss the main topics, the settings, the characters, and the issues addressed in this book. Learning Goals

An author study is a unit style lesson that gives learners the opportunity to dive deeper into an author's life and their books. Learners will critically evaluate the author's themes, characters, settings, and writing style. We'll make connections between the author's life and work.
By discussing the books with their peers, it extends their thinking as they process and interpret the different perspecitives and opinions of the other learners. It expands their ability to express their own ideas. It's a great space for kids to talk, ask questions, and interact with other kids around their own age. We'll use trivia games as a fun, educational tool to "test" their knowledge of the author and books. The main goal is to have fun reading and discussing in a semi-casual setting.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello everyone! My name is Jenny and I am the Head of Youth Services at a public library. I have my Bachelor's Degree in Print Journalism with a minor in Sociology. I also have my Master's Degree in Library and Information Science (MLIS). I run library programs for kids ages birth to 13+.

I am a homeschool mom to my 10 year old daughter. I've homeschooled her all along since preschool. I want to encourage her to have a lifelong love of learning. It's okay to think outside of the box and make learning fun.

I run a local homeschool group with over 700 families that I started in 2015. I also run a homeschool co-op. I'm a Girl Scout leader for a multi-level troop. I assist in running a local World Religions class.

I love running book clubs and doing author/novel studies. I also teach journalism, history classes using historical fiction books, STEM/STEAM, cooking/baking, circle times, and writing.

I am passionate about encouraging a love of reading with youth and helping them find books they can connect with in their own way. I believe kids need diverse books and work to include them in my classes. I enjoy sharing my love of books and reading with others.
