Class Experience

Beginner Level
In this beginners class, we combine jazz moves with tap dance steps, to give an overall basic introduction to jazz and tap dance.
After basic warm up, we will begin with some easy jazz moves. I will demonstrate the moves for learners to copy. We don't need shoes for this part of the class, but if learners have ballet or jazz shoes, of course they are welcome to wear them, otherwise just socks, or bare feet are fine.
The second part of class is all about tap! Here we will learn to tap our toes and heels and many of the basic 1st level tap steps.
Learners will need shoes for this part of the class. Tap shoes are great of course, but any hard soled shoes are fine. If you don't have those either, sports shoes with the laces tied firmly to avoid stepping on the laces by accident.
Class content - -----
* JAZZ - We will be covering basic jazz steps like step kick, ball changes, swivel turns, chaines, pas de bourree, jazz walks etc.
---------------------------------
* TAP, mostly grade one steps, like toe heels, cramp rolls, shuffles, shuffle hop drop, flaps, tap step ball change etc.
----------------------------------
* The students will be taught the names of each step they are learning as we go.
We will be working towards setting some combinations to music in each class, and having some fun along the way.

Each week, new steps will be learner-directed, depending on each learners capabilities.
Learning Goals
Students will learn some basic jazz and tap steps and then practice doing the steps together with music.
 Dancing teaches rhythm and musicality.
Dance lessons are a fantastic idea to keep your child active It also helps strengthen their muscles, and helps them to develop good balance and coordination.

Other Details

Parental Guidance
Your learner dancer needs to be wearing comfortable clothing that they can easily move in. Please have a large enough space for your dancer to move and turn around freely without fear of bumping into something or knocking something over. Please ensure any shoes with laces have the laces tied firmly to avoid stepping on them by accident. Please have drinking water on hand too, as the dancers may become thirsty during their activities.
Supply List
No shoes required for the jazz part of class, socks or soft ballet or jazz shoes are great.
Learners should either wear tap shoes or hard soled shoes for tap part of class.
If neither are available, sports shoes are fine.
( Please ensure any shoes with laces have the laces tied firmly to avoid stepping on them by
accident.)
A tapping board or a wooden board or panel or something similar that doesn't bend when jumped on, is a great for tap dancing. My board that I use in class is from the local hardware store and measures appx. 35 x 45 inches.
External Resources
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
