Whether you're already a jazz fan or never heard it before, this class will both entertain and educate you. Join me, a professional musician with a classical and jazz background as I take you through the birth of jazz through to contemporary jazz. The class is heavily focused on listening. You will need to be ready to listen and type in the chat as we hear examples from some of the greatest musicians ever recorded. Some musicians covered are: Miles Davis, Charles Mingus, Maria Scheider, Count Basie, and... Get ready to hear a lot of great music. What will be taught? Jazz: Music Listening, Appreciation and Terminology. What topics will you cover? big band, bebop, and beyond + building blocks of jazz music. How is your class structured? Heavy emphasis on guided music listening. The focus in on hearing music with a professional musician helping make sense of what you are hearing. The class moves in chronological order from 1917- How will you teach? Through performing examples as well as demonstrating musical ideas with my keyboard and virtual instruments. What's your teaching style? Give and take with lots of interactivity between the students and teacher. How much will learners get to interact with you. There will be prompts and questions posed to the students throughout all listening examples to help students remain engaged. We transition from passive listeners to active listeners. Students are encouraged to develop their listening, writing, and critical thinking skills.

Teacher expertise and credentials
In 2011, I broke into television by setting a mood with my music on "The Dr. Oz Show," an exciting leap after honing my craft in jazz from age 12 to 21—a journey culminating with a degree in Jazz Performance.
Since then, I've broadened my scope, securing numerous placements and engaging in fruitful collaborations with top music libraries, all while gaining invaluable industry insight.
My creativity isn't limited to TV. In the indie film scene, I'm proud to highlight my project "Earthbound," directed by Robin Shou. Now, in October 2024, my passion for innovation continues to drive my contributions to music, shaping an ever-exciting career path.
