Homework
1-2 hours per week. Homework will be given at times so that students can practice what they have learnt during class. They will be able to apply what they have learnt in the homework to ensure they understand the material. As with any language, the more time and effort put into learning both in and out of classes, the better the results at retaining and continuing to grow. So while homework is essentially not mandatory, it is beneficial in learning. Worksheets will be provided.Assessment
Assessments will be used as check-ins, to see where a student is in terms of understand what they have learnt in previous classes. Essentially, it will be used as a review. Assessments can take the form of mini quizzes, or conversations.Class Experience
Beginner Level
日本語のクラスへようこそ! Welcome to Japanese class! Whether you understood the writing above or not, this class is for you. This class is for beginners, and we will work at your pace to grasp and learn the foundation of the Japanese language. Students will learn grammar, vocabulary, and most importantly the Japanese writing system such as hiragana, katakana, and kanji. The aim of this class is for students to be able to do self-introductions including: hobbies, likes and dislikes, etc, ask questions, and be able to have basic conversations in Japanese. Every week, there will be mini quizzes just to gauge and review understanding of previous lessons. Students will also be expected to participate in conversation in Japanese as they learn more words and phrases to practice and solidify what they have learnt. Because this is a one-on-one class, classes will be tailored to helping students learn at a pace that best suits their needs.
Learning Goals
-Students will learn how to do self introductions (Name, hobbies, likes, dislikes, age, etc.)
-They will learn how to ask questions (What's this? Directions, etc)
-Learn a variety of vocabulary (animals, numbers, professions, hobbies, food, counters, etc)
-Learn and practice Japanese writing (Kanji, katakana, hiragana), and speaking.
