includedClass Experience
This will be a conversation class, with French spoken most of the time. We will talk about: 1. The animals we own now (or should I say the animals that own us?) - we will use the present tense to talk about them and will include descriptions: size, colour, age, temperament, things they like doing etc. 2. The animals we have owned in the past - we will use the passé composé (and possibly the imperfect tense) to talk about animals/pets we owned some time ago. 3. We will talk about pets we would like to have or animals we would like to own or see. We will use the conditional tense, but I will model sentences and keep it simple and stress free. I will structure the class so that most of the lesson is in French and will model sentences for students to use. Each student will have plenty of opportunity to speak in French during the class. Well behaved indoor pets are welcome to join us for a cameo appearance, but students can also bring photos to show the other students. Students will be able to ask each other questions about their pets. I will include a game of animal lotto, a song and a 'draw the mystery animal' activity. Some knowledge of French, including vocabulary about animals and use of the passé composé and conditional tenses will be helpful, but I promise to make the use of both tenses very straightforward and model them, so that all students can say a few sentences in Sections 2 and 3. Please let me know if your student has used these tenses when you sign them up for this course.
Learning Goals
Students will extend their use of vocabulary about animals and have fun learning about other people's pets and animal interests.
Students will be able to use the passé composé and conditional tenses in French to talk about animals they owned or saw in the past and animals they would like to see in the future.
