What will be taught? Students will be taught the essentials for writing well in a fun and entertaining environment. Students will learn how to avoid all of the following grammar errors Week 1: -sentence fragments (What is a sentence fragment?) -dangling participles (You just keep me hanging on) -shifting point of view (Say what? Look over there...) -Faulty pronoun reference Week 2 -unnecessary commas (Is, it, really, a problem, really?) -subject/verb disagreement (The problem with compound subjects) -sentence unparalleled (I like playing tennis, baseball, football, and naps) Week 3 -using wrong verb or verb tense (You is not wrong) -passive voice vs active voice (Stop being so passive) -misplaced modifiers (Has anyone seen my modifier?) Week 4 -irregardless (and other non-existing words) -split infinitives -ending sentence with preposition (never!) -The most common grammatical errors What topics will you cover? Topics that will be covered include 1) defining the grammatical issues that prevent students from writing well; 2) illustrating and demonstrating these grammatical problems; and 3) how to correct the writing problems through repetitious practice. How is your class structured? I use a deductive approach which allows more time for students to practice what is being taught. I present the target lesson, and then I provide students the opportunity to practice the focused skill. Each lesson is approximately 60 minutes and each focused presentation is approximately 20 minutes (including practice time). How will you teach? Writing is a key skill and the ability to put words down on paper is a critical skill for students. Students will be given clear writing purposes and the well-defined goal of omitting the grammatical errors discussed. Students will also compare models of good and bad writing and will collaborate with each other for editing, receiving feedback and sometimes will work together to co-write materials. Teaching the essentials of grammar will include lots of written practice; inter-active Powerpoint presentations, and short subject related videos. What's your teaching style? I use a student centered teaching style as I focus on the needs, abilities, interests of the student. My focus of activity is the student. Students are encouraged to participate in a series of tasks including speaking, listening and collaborating with other students. How much will learners get to interact with you and each other?

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello:
I can honestly say, "I was born to teach." When I was just five years old, if anyone asked me what I wanted to become, I would proudly and without hesitation say, "I want to become a teacher!"
I am a well seasoned teacher who has taught both globally and in the public school system. I am certified to teach English as a Second Language and I have a Masters in Liberal Arts. Though my formal training is in teaching high school, I have discovered that I enjoy teaching little ones more. It is very important that little ones learn to read and develop good language skills as these skills are the very foundation for a successful life. Parents want to assure their young children are truly on solid ground in these areas. I believe that in order for me to successfully teach phonics, I must have:
1. A Burning Passion: A positive drive and a readiness to meet the need of each student;
2. Patience: Young learners often need repetition and reminders;
3. Creativity: Considering the needs of each student and develop activities for all;
4. Flexibility: If something is not working, always having a productive back-up plan; and
5. Dedication: It just will not work without it!
I have also taught high school English, developmental writing courses and adult reading and writing courses. I have extensive training providing one on one assistance and providing helpful parental feedback.
When I am not teaching on-line, I enjoy being with my family and playing golf!
