Calling all young writers and journalists! In this ongoing English course, learners will read a recent news article and complete various comprehension tasks to develop their understanding. Includes the 5W1H and PEE Method. What will the classes entail? Each class comes with activity sheets to be completed during and after class. Learners are welcome to post their completed work to the classroom. Classes are interactive and our teaching style is dynamic and engaging. What's your teaching style? We are a team of experienced teachers who are calm, patient and supportive whilst ensuring that the children are constantly learning. The environment will be dynamic and learners will actively participate throughout the class. As experienced teachers, we are capable of adapting my style to suit the learners. How much will learners get to interact with you and each other? Students will be active participants throughout each class. Student talk time is expected to be significantly higher than teacher talk time. What kind of class is this? This is an ongoing live class. This class meets once a week for 35 minutes. Learners will be encouraged to speak to the teacher, in pairs and individually. Learners will complete some of the activity sheets in the class. What will be covered in each class? Week of 21/4/24 - Can You Spot The Fake News? More themes to be added. What will the structure of the class be? Learners will be required to read the news article before class. Learners will come to class ready to share their ideas, focus on comprehension and vocabulary and be journalists! Learners will explore, write and investigate using the 5W1H and PEE methods. Learners will ask the 5 W and 1 H questions (Who, What, Where, When, Why, How) to understand the text further. Learners will use the Point, Evidence & Explanation (PEE) to back up their ideas with what they have found in the text. Learners will investigate the theme of the news article further and write their own article after class. Learners are encouraged to share their writing in the classroom after class to receive feedback from their teacher. Further classes will be added. The activity sheets will be uploaded to the classroom on Sunday each week at 7pm PST. Please bring these to class with you along with a notebook, pencil, and crayons.
