"We all have different gifts, so we all have different ways of saying to the world who we are." - Mister Rogers Over the course of his life, and television show, Fred Rogers gave the world countless special gifts, messages, and life lessons. His goal was to make every single person (especially children) feel special, loved, and heard. Sometimes, children have a difficult time conveying what they want to say, or finding ways to deal with their feelings or problems. As a teacher, I believe Mister Rogers' words and wisdom will be relevant forever. This class will focus on specific problems, solutions, and topics that are relevant to every day life at this age. Each week, learners will be introduced to a new quote spoken by Mister Rogers, and how it applies as a life lesson that he believed in. We will discuss, as a group, what we believe it means, how it is relevant to our own lives, and how we can use our own skills to solve problems, understand our feelings, and be better friends and neighbors to everyone around us. Some classes will involve students reading poems and other sayings. All classes will end in a song that Mister Rogers wrote pertaining to that week's theme. This will be a student-led discussion class, guided by the teacher to ensure understanding of the key ideas in each lesson. This world needs a lot more people like Mister Rogers. And that can start today - by embodying the kindness he shared to everyone around. Won't you be my neighbor? Week 1: "It always helps to have people we love beside us when we have to do difficult things in life." Learners will place value on relationships and friendships - old and new. Week 2: “I’m proud of you for the times you came in second, or third, or fourth, but what you did was the best you had ever done.” Learners will understand how to be proud of someone whether they win or lose. Week 3: “When we can talk about our feelings, they become less overwhelming, less upsetting and less scary.” Learners will discuss productive and calming ways to handle their feelings. Week 4: "To love someone is to strive to accept that person exactly the way he or she is, right here and now." Learners will understand how differences should not divide us and that all people are deserving of our love and kindness. Week 5: "Forgiveness is a strange thing. It can sometimes be easier to forgive our enemies than our friends. It can be hardest of all to forgive people we love." Learners will discuss what it really means to forgive another person, and why it is so important to do so. Week 6: “How many times have you noticed that it’s the little quiet moments in the midst of life that seem to give the rest extra-special meaning?” Our world is so loud. Learners will learn to appreciate the importance of silence and quiet moments. Week 7: "It’s not so much what we have in this life that matters. It’s what we do with what we have." Learners will understand the meaning and value behind sharing what we have. Week 8: "If you could only sense how important you are to the lives of those you meet; how important you can be to the people you may never even dream of." Learners will explore what being a good Neighborhood really means. My Classroom Policies are listed on my teacher profile page. Please message me with any questions or to schedule this class at a different time!
Learning Goals
Students will learn about a new theme (friendship, kindness, anger, loneliness, disappointment, positivity, thankfulness, etc.) each week and discuss with the other students what it means. They will think about a time that they felt that way, or experienced this "theme" in their own life. Sometimes they will learn songs, or poems, featuring our topic of conversation. They will be encouraged to use this new knowledge and understanding at home.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Bachelor's Degree in Music or Theatre or Arts from Westminster College
Hello Outschool Learners and Fellow Parents!
As Mr. Rogers once said, "The best teacher in the world is somebody who loves what he or she does, and loves it in front of you!"
Although my Bachelor’s Degree is in Broadcasting & Communications, and not teaching, I've always had a passion for educating not only others, but myself. I love to learn about new places, ideas, and people, and I love sharing this knowledge with others! I am a proud mama of two precious little boys, and I may be biased, but they are definitely my two favorite students. I hope to inspire an understanding and appreciation for life-long education, not just for my own children, but also for yours! I have been teaching online for over 3 years, and I find this virtual format to be a fantastic way to learn and explore!
My teaching approach is conversational and interactive. I encourage discussions and opinions from all of my students. The classes I teach mostly focus on Movies and the Film/TV industry, Life Skills for a variety of ages, and ESL classes. Helping children learn to communicate more effectively is something I love to do. I believe teaching little ones the value of being kind, generous, and understanding towards others is irreplaceable, and these life lessons will be an integral part of every class.
To lend credit as to why I am qualified to teach these classes… I have been working in Film and Television my entire professional life. My background has put me inside of a newsroom, at National Geographic Channel, and as the manager of one of the largest film studios on the East Coast! I am also a hiring manager with a strong belief in early on professional development and basic communication skills. I also am a certified TESOL teacher and love helping young students capture and understand the English language.
Our worlds are growing and changing each day, and so are my classes. Together, let's learn something new!

- Per Outschool's Policy, all learners appearing on camera must be enrolled in class. Siblings are welcome to share a camera, but both must be signed up! All participating learners must be formally enrolled in that lesson. Failure to follow this rule may result in being placed into the waiting room until the problem is resolved.
- If you are the only student enrolled in the class, I will inform the parent a few hours in advance and cancel that day's lesson - unless there is an agreement ahead of time that the student will be the only one there.
- I will happily accommodate your schedule to the best of my ability! If you do not see an available time that works for you, please reach out so we can find an alternative solution.
- For my ongoing classes, if you let me know at least 24 hours in advance that you are unable to attend that week's class, I will offer a full refund. If you let me know right before class, I will offer a partial refund. If you simply do not show up, I will not offer you a refund.
