Students read and discuss Stargirl. Great story for kids who march to a creative drum and/or ever struggled with belonging, social norms or identify as neurodivergent. Discussions on belonging vs. fitting in. ELA activities posted weekly.

Students learn the words conformity and nonconformity. 

Students are asked to consider when social norms are or are not important to follow. 

Students are asked to think about the difference between fitting in and belonging. 

Students practice close reading skills. 

Students learn four literary terms: turning point, metaphor, foreshadowing, and mood vs tone. 
Homework Offered
We'll read approximately 50 -70 pages a week. Weekly classroom post includes optional creative thinking/writing questions, creative English Language Arts activities, and video links providing additional context.
