In this 4-week course, learners will explore foundational concepts of marine biology and marine animal classification. #academic

Class experience

US Grade 7 - 9
Upon completion of this class learners will be able to: 
-Describe the science of taxonomy and it's importance
-Classify invertebrate marine life using a dichotomous key. 
-Identify and describe the main characteristics of the following invertebrate phyla: Porifera, Cnidaria, Platyhelminthes, Nematoda, Annelida, Mollusca, Arthropoda and Echinodermata.
-Explain the role invertebrate animal phyla have in the marine environment. 
Homework Offered
For learners choosing to complete the homework, it should take no more than 1-2 hour per week to complete.
1 - 2 hours per week outside of class
Assessments Offered
For learners choosing to have their work assessed, the grading rubric is as follows: Weekly Discussion: 5 pts/wk = 20 pts. *for full credit, discussion post will need to include substantive questions or answers relative to the weekly content. Weekly Quiz: 10 pts/wk = 40 pts. Weekly Homework: 10 pts/wk = 40 pts.
