Class Experience

US Grade 6 - 9
Women's history in the U.S. is a fascinating tale of struggle, friendship, momentum, violence, and propaganda. In this one-time, introductory course, we will walk through the struggle for women's independence in the U.S., starting with the formation of the country and Abigail Adams most famous letter to "remember the ladies". We will explore the people involved in the various reform movements of the early 1800's, visit the 1848 Seneca Falls Convention, get arrested with Susan B. Anthony when she tries to vote, march with Alice Paul and Lucy Burns in front of the White House, and celebrate when the 19th Amendment to the constitution is passed. We will explore the creation of the Equal Rights Amendment, "The Feminine Mystique" by Betty Friedan that launched the second wave in the 1950's, march with the women of the 1960's, and explore the many laws and changes of the 70's-present day.
