Class Experience

Bring your art supplies and dress to get messy! In this 4 week workshop, we will create charming paintings while experimenting with various watercolor techniques. Minimal art experience is necessary. If you can properly hold a paintbrush, then you are ready for this class :) We will learn about proper care of our art supplies, basic brush strokes, and how to mix and blend colors.

This is a flexible schedule course and there are no live meetings. Weekly video lessons with a project demonstration will be posted in the classroom each week and students will interact by posting photos of their work and commenting (positively) on others' creations. The teacher will assist the students by providing positive commentary, troubleshooting paint issues, and recommending different techniques. I always encourage a growth mindset in my art classes. No one is perfect on the first attempt! It is of utmost importance that we are kind to each other and ourselves.

Week 1: Spring Trees (Basic watercolor techniques)
Week 2: Mountain Landscape (Color blending and washing)
Week 3: Rainbow Splatter Tree (Splatter effect)
Week 4: Colorful Unicorn (Previous techniques and basic drawing skills)

Students will need:
An art space that is allowed to get messy!
Water, paper towels, and a "palate" for paint (tin foil, wax paper, or a paper plate works well)
11x14 or larger WATERCOLOR canvas or paper- You will achieve different results if it is not specifically made for watercolor paint.
3 paint brushes: 1 wide, 1 medium, 1 small for detail work (A watercolor "wash" brush is recommended.)
Watercolor paint palette of 24-30 colors. I purchased mine from Michael's for $8.
Masking or painter's tape - optional
Colors change based on project. We typically use black, white, and the 6 colors of the rainbow.
