Class Experience

US Grade 3 - 6
First, students will write a five-sentence paragraph as a base to establish their writing level. Using a non-fiction article How to Deal With Isolation in a PowerPoint Presentation, students will focus on vocabulary, spelling, and grammar. Second, students will be asked to read three times each of the 12 words of the vocabulary used in this lesson. Then, they will write a sentence using the new word independently. Later, the sentence will be shared with the whole group. Third, they will practice the new vocabulary in a quiz consisting of fill in the blank and a multiple choice of words. Fourth, we will read a nonfiction article together that has all the vocabulary embedded, which will improve their understanding of context. In the second week, they will use the new words in a ten-sentence paragraph. Students will be asked to share their paragraphs with the class. This interactive class is structured to introduce vocabulary, grammar, and writing paragraphs with a clear message. I will provide examples of sentences and a paragraph, the students will be encouraged to read, and to work with partners and independently. At the end of the class, students will have increased their vocabulary and written fluency. Students need to be fluent readers before they can become fluent writers.
Learning Goals
Students will improve their understanding of three of the six traits of writing: sentence fluency, word choice, and conventions.
