Class Experience

What will be taught:
Students will be introduced to the Scientific Method and its process. Then students will make observations and answer questions using inquiry to a fun lab called "Swirling Milk". Students can watch the mini-lab during class time and also bring materials to class and try the experiment with the instructor. Using an interactive PowerPoint the students will make a foldable listing and defining the steps of the scientific method. After making our foldable of the Scientific Method, we will make a hypothesis and discuss why the colors seemed to move in the milk. Students can use the back of their foldable to write their hypotheses and list their observations or they can print out the worksheet.
Topics Covered: Scientific Method, polar and non-polar molecules when soap is added to milk.
Class Structure: This will be a course for students to take notes on a foldable and ask questions using basic classroom manners. We will have an open discussion when questions arise. Students will be allowed to speak freely and "school" appropriately when they raise their hands or talk amongst themselves to determine the answer to their hypothesis.
No prior knowledge is required.

Learning Goals

Students will learn the major steps to the Scientific Method and conduct a fun inquiry lab.

Science is so interesting I know you will enjoy learning about the study of life and the many different topics concerning our living world! I have a Bachelor’s degree in Education from Eastern Michigan University where I majored in Biology and Chemistry. I also hold a Masters's degree in Learning Disabilities from Madonna University which is in Livonia, Michigan, and I have over 30 additional hours in graduate credit from Mary Grove College in the Art of Teaching. I have over 26 years of experience teaching children in the areas of Biology, Chemistry, History, Algebra, Geometry, and English. I love the water! Not only do I enjoy boating, fishing, and swimming we live by beautiful Lake Huron. Did you know that Lake Huron is the fifth largest freshwater lake on the planet, according to the Michigan Economic Development Corporation? The lake's surface area is 23,000 square miles (59,600 square kilometers) and its volume is 850 cubic miles (3,540 cubic km). I absolutely love living near Lake Huron.

I look forward to instructing you, helping you prepare for your future, and getting to know you during our lessons!
