Join me as we examine the many contributions of the ancient Greeks, and learn why ancient Greece is one of the most influential civilizations in human history. This class will cover the impact that ancient Greece had on the Arts, education, mathematics, science, philosophy, the Olympics, and Greek mythology. We will examine famous Greeks such as Aristotle, Socrates, Ptolemy, Plato, and many more! This course will be taught using visual aids via PowerPoint in a lecture-based format. Students will be expected to ask questions and discuss as a group the material that we are covering. During the 50 minute class periods, students should expect to answer questions to check their understanding and participate in class discussions. This is an introductory class. Students do not need to have any background knowledge coming into class. This class is one of four classes that I offer on Ancient Greece. The other classes are introductory, but when all four are taken they become a comprehensive examination of Ancient Greece. The classes can be taken in any sequence, however, the most logical order would be: 1. Introduction to Geography of Ancient Greece 2. Introduction to the Government of Ancient Greece 3. Introduction to the Golden Age of Greece 4. Introduction to the Wars and Fall of Ancient Greece
Learning Goals
I can appraise the contributions of Greek societies
