Come learn how to make beautiful sounds on your flute! The flute can be one of the trickiest instruments to start producing a beautiful sound. I will give you tips and tricks you can use after class to put you on a path to success. -We will start by making sounds on a water bottle, and then move to using just the headjoint of the flute. -We will experiment with our air stream, and learn how to form an embouchure to control and direct it. -We will also spend some time discussing how to put the flute together, how to hold it, and how to clean it and put it away correctly. Students will have the opportunity to play for the teacher and the group if they would like to, but it will not be required.

Supply List
Flute - If you do not have a flute yet, I recommend renting one from your school program or a local music store to start. Many of the flutes that can be purchased online are challenging to play and fall into disrepair easily. Small mouthed water or soda bottle (disposable). It should be already empty for this class and you will not need the cap.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Vermont Teaching Certificate in Music/Theater/Arts
I have two degrees in flute performance, have performed on the flute professionally around the world, and have studied with world renowned flutists and pedagogues. I have training in Alexander technique and Body Mapping, and I use that training to support flutists in developing a free and fluid technique that will help them achieve success and avoid overuse injury. I also have experience supporting more experienced flutists in releasing bad habits and refining their physical habits. This can allow people to recovery from injury and achieve more freedom and control in their playing. Another area of specialty is helping teenagers deal with performance anxiety, a frequent challenge for students in that age group.
I have experience with and professional development for creating neuroaffirming learning experiences, and welcome neurodivergent learners to my studio.
