Introduction to Spanish (Middle-School Trimester Course) Part II This 8-week class will continue introducing Spanish to young learners. This course will keep your learner engaged with eye-catching images, videos, and interactive activities. This course has been designed for students to learn the fundamentals of the Spanish language while also studying the culture of several Spanish speaking countries. This class will be 40% vocabulary and grammar, and 60% guided practice. Students will be expected to: -Actively participate in class discussions and conversations -Practice 1-2 hours a week outside the classroom -Keep a Spanish notebook/diary. *Having taken my "Introduction to Spanish I" is not a requirement. However, the learner must have mastered the following subjects in order to be up to par when the class begins: the alphabet, the colors, the numbers 1-100, verbs: "vivir", gustar","ser", "tener", "tener que", verbs ending in "ar", "er", "ir", days of the week, masculino/femenino, months, seasons, expressing feelings, foods, describing clothes, people and locations. Structure: -Icebreaker/greetings (5 mins) -Teacher lecture/slides (15-20 mins) -Guided practice (20-30 mins) Week 1: -Mi comida favorita -Foods you like/don't like -Interrogative words/ asking questions -Grammar: Present tense of "er" and "ir" verbs -Grammar: Verb "hacer" Week 2: -En mi familia -Talk about family -Express possession Grammar: "de" to show possession Grammar: possessive adjectives Grammar: comparatives Week 3: -Make comparisons -Practice dates -Practice asking and telling age Grammar: "de" to show possession Grammar: possessive adjectives Grammar: comparatives Week 4 : Vamos de compra -Review terms for clothes -Talk about things we would like to buy -Talk about clothes for different seasons -Review the seasons and the weather -Review numbers 1-100 Grammar: "verbo tener", expressions with "tener" Grammar: stem-changing verbs: "e" to "ie" Grammar: Direct object pronouns Week 5: -Climates around the world -Virtual shopping around Madrid, Spain -Learning about Spain Grammar: "verbo tener", expressions with "tener" Grammar: "verbo querer" Grammar: stem-changing verbs: "e" to "ie" Grammar: Direct object pronouns Week 6: -Describing places and events in your city/town -Types of transportation Grammar: The Verb "ir" and verb+ infitivito "ir a" Grammar: Direct object pronouns Grammar: stem-changing verbs: "o" to "ue" Grammar: stem-changing verbs: "e" to "i" Week 7: -Virtual tour through a Latin, American and Spanish local market -Weekend activities in Spain, Guatemala and Chile -Comparisons Grammar: The verb "ir" and verb+ infitivito "ir a" Grammar: Direct object pronouns Grammar: stem-changing verbs: "o" to "ue" Grammar: stem-changing verbs: "e" to "i" Week 8: -Interrogative words/ asking questions -Our favorite weekend activities Grammar: the verb "estar" the verb "ir" Grammar: the verb "poder" Grammar: the verb "gustar" Grammar: the verb "querer"
Learning Goals
At the end of this course students will:
-Be able to identify and describe themselves, others, public and private spaces and food.
-Be able to order food in a restaurant or shop in spanish.
-Be able to use complete sentences in Spanish to communicate.
-Be able to ask and answer simple questions in Spanish.
-Recognize verbs ending in "ar", "er" and "ir"
-Have learned about the culture of Spanish-speaking people from different countries around the world.
