In this Introduction to Poetry class, students will learn what a poem is and how it differs from other types of creative writing. The students will learn about 4 different types of poems in this course (Haiku, sonnet, free verse and soliloquy). Students will be instructed via powerpoints and worksheets. The powerpoint will introduce the topic to the student in a lecture format. After the lecture portion of class, students will work on the worksheet together in class to reinforce the information. The Worksheets will be distributed prior to class so student can use it during the lesson. First the powerpoint will be presented to the student, followed by discussions to reinforce understanding. The last phase of the class will be student exercises, either all verbal or a combination of written and verbal activities. Students will then have to create their own pieces that can can sent to me for grading. I prefer to have a lecture followed by a discussion approach in order to give the student the opportunity of really understand what they are learning.
Handouts for the class will be provided. Students should come prepared with printed handouts and some paper for optional note taking.
Hello My future students,
If you made it this far, you've past the first test! Congrats! As a reward, I will introduce myself to you.
My name is Ruth Charles, and I have been an online teacher for about a year now. I first started as an ESL teacher, but now I also teach poetry, creative reading, reading and hobby classes (makeup, music, etc.). I have always wanted to be a teacher, so I was very fortunate enough to find that I can teach here. I believe that learning can be fun, and we should never too scared to take on a new learning adventure. This is why, i conduct my classes in a way that students are free to express their ideas. The students are the speakers in my classroom. Although we will start with lecture, the class will always end with fun dialogue to reinforce learning. My classes will always cater to students needs, this is why I keep my classroom sizes smaller. i want to make sure, everyone has ample time to speak and have fun!
I look forward to seeing you in my classroom!
