What will be taught? - Greek alphabet letters, sounds, and a vocabulary word for each letter. - Numbers from 1-10 - Double Vowels - Singular Personal Pronouns and the verbs "I am" - Greetings, introductions, and country of origin. What topics will be covered? This unit is an introduction to Modern Greek for students in the 1st, and 2nd grades. It will cover the basic skills a student needs to embark on a journey to a foreign language. The topic is "Hello" and students will learn the alphabet, numbers, and basic greetings in Modern Greek. How is the class structured? Each lesson includes reading, grammar, math, and vocabulary. There are 12 live lessons, two of which are assessments. The students get the opportunity to practice speaking the language by repeating letters, sounds, and vocabulary words. At the beginning of each class, students will review the previous class' material before adding to their knowledge. Students will also get the opportunity to spell words and interact with their classmates practicing their conversational skills. After each 55-minute live class, the students will have to complete print-out homework to help them practice what they've learned. What's your teaching style and how will you teach? I am very enthusiastic and I love to praise and encourage my students. I will be speaking English (mostly for directions) and Greek during the class but TPR (Total Physical Response) will be used to encourage the students to make a connection between the Greek word and physical action. What is the level of learner interaction? Students are encouraged to speak in Greek but can ask whatever they need in English. This is an interactive lesson and students are encouraged to raise their hands and participate showing off their new skills. They also need to have a small 8x10 whiteboard and a black marker to write each word and letter we learn. Students do not need to take notes during class since they will have access to the lesson slides as well as flashcards to help them in their private study. Students do not need to have any prior knowledge of the language to attend this class. They just need to be excited and willing to learn a new language.
