Learners will be assessed by the production of their finished product, a delicious home made pizza.Class Experience
. Learners will be taught to read a recipe and go through the steps of creating their very own home made pizza. We will learn cooking techniques such as how to measure ingredients. We will learn about baking with yeast and what it takes to create a successful recipe using yeast. We will learn about different kitchen equipment such as ovens and stand mixers and their various attachments. We will learn about proper handwashing techniques and the importance of good hygiene in the kitchen. There is no better application of STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) than through cooking and baking. We will discuss the science behind the way some foods are made. We will use a variety of kitchen equipment and discuss possible solutions of substitutions of equipment and ingredients. We will use math skills when measuring using standard and nonstandard measuring tools. Learners will learn about the history of pizza and how the Italians brought their delicacy with them as they immigrated throughout the world in the 1900's. I do not cook along side students, instead I focus all of my attention on them as I assist them in the completion of each step that is necessary to create their final product.

Learners will use kitchen equipment such as knives and ovens. They may use stand mixers if they would like.
Supply List
Supplies: 4 cups all purpose flour 1 packet rapid rise yeast 2 Tablespoons sugar 1 teaspoon salt 1 1/2 cup warm water (not hotter than 110 degrees) 2 Tablespoons Olive oil (plus a little more to spread the crust) You will need sauce, cheese and toppings of your choice. We will use a pizza pan or stone to bake the pizza. We will use the oven and you may use a stand mixer if you would like.
