Beginner Level
Learners must have a general knowledge of the game concept, rules, game mechanics, and character sheet to get the most out of the class. This is designed to put those skills to practical use in an actual game session and achieve a greater understanding of the game from all aspects. The player will experience combat using attacks, saving throws, magic, ability checks, and more in cooperative play with their fellow classmates. This will encourage them to role play to whatever level they are comfortable with and use critical thinking and problem-solving skills to overcome different combat and other types of challenges in an actual scenario. After a short introduction and overview, the players will begin and have to figure out how to defeat a small outpost of goblins. I will guide them through this process and try to make the adventure as fun, exciting, and informative as possible. I will use all of the tools at my disposal to make this an excellent experience. Expect detailed maps, character tokens, effects, and other resources to really bring the experience to life. I will be using Roll20 as a virtual tabletop, but players will not be required to sign in to Roll20, but they may of they wish. How to prepare for class The player should have a 3rd level character using any published material and using the Point Buy method for Ability Scores and Fixed Hit Points. No magic Items and no Homebrew allowed. Multiclassing and Feats are allowed. If a player shows up to class without a character, one will be assigned. Please show up prepared. The player may use an online dice roller or actual dice to roll in-game and we will use the honor system for rolls. Being on time for class is absolutely essential and students who are more than 15 minutes late will not be allowed to enter the session. Refunds/transfers will not be honored for tardiness. Promptness is essential to honor everyone's experience.
Learning Goals
In this session, the student will learn how combat mechanics, saving throws, ability checks, damage, hit points, and other game rules work in a live game. They will see examples of narration, role play, and game management by the Dungeon Master. If the players are successful in their quest and time permits, they will receive treasure, and experience points to add to their character. They will also have the opportunity to practice role-play skills as well.
