Class Experience

In this class we'll build a 5th Edition D&D character, either on paper or using the online builder at dndbeyond.com .

We'll go step-by-step through creating a character who is fun and effective to play. I'll help you through the process of choosing class, background and race, picking skills, equipment and spells, and some basic personality traits.

The only thing you need to have going into this class is a general idea of your character— whether they use a sword or magic, whether they're super strong or super charming. This is absolutely subject to change if you realize another character idea appeals to you more.

Supply List
Access to a D&D 5th Edition Player's Handbook is certainly a plus, though not required. Students will need a pencil and paper for note-taking, and if they intend to create a character on paper, they will need the Character Sheet printed off before.

Teacher expertise and credentials
I'm offering this class because I love the game of D&D and the effect it's had on my life. I'm an avid player and DM of the game (I play in three games and run four regular campaigns), and I continue to be delighted by what happens once the character sheets and dice come out. My friendships have gotten deeper, I've become a more confident and creative person, and I get to be awesome at least once a week (which is great for self-image).

I've introduced dozens of people to the game through regular beginner one-shots I run bi-weekly at a local game bar, so I am daunted neither by the complexity of the game nor by off-the-wall questions. I've probably heard it all before.
