Beginner Level
Designed for youth ages 8-12, this engaging program introduces youth to humane and effective training techniques that enhance communication with their pets. We welcome pets of all species from dogs and cats to reptiles and horses...and more!

In this course, students will learn what clicker training is, what food rewards to use for their training, how to set their pet up for success, and will even train their first trick!

Courses will have written material, video presentation of material, and animal training video demonstrations. Each week, students will watch a video lesson and complete a short homework assignment. Students will practice with their personal pets and receive instructor feedback.

What is Clicker Training?
 In this lesson, you will discover what's so special about the click and the reward.

 This week, you will compare different types of rewards and how to provide them to your pet.

Material is both written and recorded for both visual and auditory needs.
Parental Guidance
This course requires hands-on practice of skills with a live animal. It is up to the parent or legal guardian's discretion to determine if the pet's disposition is appropriate for the child's use in this course. Any animal can be unpredictable. For example, animals with severe anxiety, aggression, resource guarding, or other potentially dangerous behaviors that may put the child's safety at risk should be avoided. If you have any questions or concerns about your pet's suitability for this course, please contact the Clicker Kids Animal Academy instructors.
Pre-Requisites
No prerequisites required.
Supply List
Items are not required for the first class and students will be provided with information about suitable substitutions if needed. 

-One clicker for animal training: $2-4 (Amazon, PetSmart, local pet supply store)
-One treat pouch (or suitable container for holding treats):  $5-20 (Amazon, PetSmart, local pet supply store)
-A target stick: $3-20 (Amazon, PetSmart, local pet supply store)
-Access to an animal/pet

Often there are bundles available on Amazon that include multiple items for a single price (example: a treat pouch and clicker for $9)

Note: students and their parents will need access to food or treats to train their pet. The food they use will depend on the species they are training. Students will learn more about what type of food to use for training within the course material in week 2.

Our instructors have a combined 8 years of clicker training experience and 20+ years of handling domestic animals. Kelsey has been teaching youth horse lessons for 6 years. Sara has taught science at the high school level for 8 years with a special interest in animal behavior.
