Hello and welcome to the wonderful world of American Sign Language! In each ongoing class, students will have a chance to learn about a different topic of discussion. Most classes will have some worksheets for students to be able to follow. I am excited to share with you how Sign Language came to happen in our country, why the ear is important to our bodies, yummy food signs, and so much more. I am a very interactive teacher and love questions. Students will have a chance to show what they have learned after each class and feel the joy of knowing they are learning and able to help others at the same time. Below is a list of the topics we will cover each week. Week of 1/07/24: The Alphabet, and Numbers from 0 - 1,000,000 Week of 1/14/24: Hand Shapes, Review of Alphabet and Numbers, and the History of ASL Week of 1/21/24: Basic Components of ASL, the Ear, and some Tips for Fingerspelling Practice Week of 1/28/24: Family and Social Life Signs Week of 2/04/24: Food Week of 2/11/24: Travel and Holidays Week of 2/18/24: Sports and Recreation Week of 2/25/24: Seasons, Time, and Weather Week of 3/03/24: Emotions Week of 3/10/24: Money and Shopping Week of 3/17/24: Health and Emergencies Week of 3/24/24: Animals and Nature Week of 3/31/24: How to interpret songs Week of 4/07/24: How to tell a deaf joke Week of 4/14/24: Idioms

Teacher expertise and credentials
Bachelor's Degree in Education from Ambassador Baptist College
Hi! My name is Natalie and I love teaching. I have over 15 years' experience in learning and teaching ASL with both children and adults. I recently got my certificate in ASL. I also graduated with my Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education in 2010. In 2024, I passed my Praxis in English and Social Studies. Previously, I taught high school History, Sign Language, and Gym class for a year.
Why do I love teaching? I think every child deserves a chance to succeed no matter what. Each child learns differently and being able to adapt and change a lesson to make sure they fully comprehend a concept before moving on is so important.
