Class Experience

Students with little to no acting experience will learn the basics of how to analyze and create characters for Film & TV. They will learn to act in a supportive, nonjudgmental environment using the emotion wheel and imagination techniques. Students will choose to partner up or work individually. The first week they will learn and memorize scenes that are provided and the second week perform and readjust them. If the student prefers to use their own scene, they may do so after submission and approval of instructor. In the third week students will bring in their own scenes to rehearse with other students (unless they prefer to request a scene). The fourth week they will perform their own scenes with the option of props and costumes adding in any fun elements they wish while understanding their position within the frame. With the nature of the media platform, this class will allow students the same experience as professionals use in "On-Camera" classes in Hollywood. Students will engage with each other and the teacher in a fun and playful manner. As all the scenes are recording, the actors can go back and watch their own work!

Learning Goals

Students will learn how to create an interesting character and bring themselves to a role. They will learn to breakdown a script and perform as if acting for film or tv. This is a great introductory class so that they can later join an ongoing scene study course.

Parental Guidance
If student is not able to read or operate the computer on his/her own, a parent may want to standby for assistance. If your actor does not already have a scene in mind or choose one provided, they have the option to find their own scene on tv or film. This scene choice must be approved by the parent. The parent may want to assist in helping the student write down the words for the characters in the scene. These should be short ~ 1 minute scenes with one to two people in the scene. No curse words or questionable materials will be allowed. The script will then be submitted to me (teacher) for approval with parent's confirmation before performance is allowed in class.
Supply List
A one page handout will be provided to every student. Additional scenes may be provided for those who prefer, but casting themselves in various characters and studying shows/films with their character types is encouraged. Printing scripts and highlighting them will be helpful. A recording tool such as a cell phone or other device to help with memorization is encouraged.
