In this fun and interactive class, beginner-level students will learn the top 5 skills in Acro Dance. Acro Dance is a style of dance that combines classical techniques with acrobatic elements. While all dance is physical, this form is particularly athletic and has unique choreography due to its use of acrobatics in a dance environment. This class is geared towards beginners who are new to Acro and/or Dance, and want to try something new and exciting while improving their body strength and motor abilities! We will start class with a warm-up dance to get the muscles ready for their lesson. Then I will introduce each skill below by demonstrating and safely guiding each student through them: Stand on One Foot: This skill practices balance and teaches the foundational Ballet dance skill called "retire." Butterfly: Posture is important in dance and acro. Butterfly is a great way for students to learn to sit tall while providing a gentle stretch. Skipping: Working across the floor helps dancers learn spacial awareness but also encourages musicality for all dance forms in the future. During this exercise, we focus on the coordination of skipping and how this skill promotes strength by training control and engagement in the working leg. Baby Bridge: This move is the precursor of a bridge. Alignment is crucial in the technique of a bridge. This skill is a great start for students to comprehend parallel positioning. Frog Jumps: Learning how to forcefully leave the floor, this skill ensures dancers learn the concept of power in a jump for future tumbling lines.
Learning Goals
Students will learn the following: balance through a Ballet technique ("Stand on One Foot"); posture and flexibility ("Butterfly"); coordination, strength, & musicality ("Skipping"); alignment - the foundation of acro dance ("Baby Bridge"); gross motor skills, stamina, & explosive strength ("Frog Jumps").
