Introduction to the 4 Square Writing Method
Students will learn how to complete the 4 square outline and how to use that information to write a 3 paragraph essay.
 Week 2
Lesson 2
Narrative Essays
Students will learn about narrative essay characteristics and compose their own 3 paragraph essay.
 Week 3
Lesson 3
Descriptive Essays
Students will learn about descriptive essay characteristics and compose their own 3 paragraph essay.
 Week 4
Lesson 4
Informative Essays
Students will learn about informative essay characteristics and compose their own 3 paragraph essay.
 Week 5
Lesson 5
Opinion Essays
Students will learn about opinion essay characteristics and compose their own 3 paragraph essay.
 Week 6
Lesson 6
Compare and Contrast Essays
Students will learn about compare and contrast essay characteristics and compose their own 3 paragraph essay.

Cause and Effect Essays
Students will learn about cause and effect essay characteristics and compose their own 3 paragraph essay.

Expository Essays

Students will learn about persuasive essay characteristics and compose their own 3 paragraph essay.

Share and Discuss
Students will share their persuasive essay and have a discussion about whether they agree to disagree with presented points of view.
  • Students will learn how to organize their thinking using an outline.
  • Students will use the outline to write their 3 paragraph essays.
  • Students will experience different writing genres.
1 - 2 hours per week outside of class
