This introduces students to the concept of essay writing using the 4 Square Writing Method. Students will write a different type of essay each week. The 4 Square Writing Method gives students a formula to utilize to help them feel more confident in their writing abilities. Class will be held through discussions, guided and independent practice and sharing of completed work. Week 1Lesson 1Introduction to the 4 Square Writing MethodStudents will learn how to complete the 4 square outline and how to use that information to write a 3 paragraph essay.Week 2Lesson 2Narrative EssaysStudents will learn about narrative essay characteristics and compose their own 3 paragraph essay.Week 3Lesson 3Descriptive EssaysStudents will learn about descriptive essay characteristics and compose their own 3 paragraph essay.Week 4Lesson 4Informative EssaysStudents will learn about informative essay characteristics and compose their own 3 paragraph essay.Week 5Lesson 5Opinion EssaysStudents will learn about opinion essay characteristics and compose their own 3 paragraph essay.Week 6Lesson 6Compare and Contrast EssaysStudents will learn about compare and contrast essay characteristics and compose their own 3 paragraph essay.Week 7Lesson 7Cause and Effect EssaysStudents will learn about cause and effect essay characteristics and compose their own 3 paragraph essay.Week 8Lesson 8Expository EssaysStudents will learn about expository essay characteristics and compose their own 3 paragraph essay.Week 9Lesson 9Persuasive EssaysStudents will learn about persuasive essay characteristics and compose their own 3 paragraph essay.Week 10Lesson 10Share and DiscussStudents will share their persuasive essay and have a discussion about whether they agree to disagree with presented points of view.
