*Use Code Trammel2020 to save $20 if you are new to Outschool!* Introduction to 3D animation with Blender This course introduces students to major features of Blender: modeling, texturing, lighting, dynamics, rigging and animation. 3D animation concepts will be reviewed, explained and demonstrated each week using Blender. Students will explore their creativity and expand their technical knowledge by following along with class examples and completing a course project. This course will be a first in a series of Blender courses that will cover the wonderful world of 3D animation in film/tv, VR and games. You need to Download Blender before class in order to save time and minimize interruptions in class You can Download the Blender, available for free, here: https://www.blender.org Week of 10/6/2023: The Blender Interface: navigation, object creation, importing and placing assets Assignment: Create a scene 3D environment by importing and placing set pieces in front of the camera. Week of 10/13: More Blender UI and Introduction to Polygon Modeling Assignment: Create rough shape of dragon with polygons. Week of 10/20/23: 3D Polygon and Sculpting Tools Assignment: Add detail to your dragon by using Blender sculpting brush tools. Week of 10/27/23: Texturing, Shaders and UV Mapping Assignment: Texture and paint dragon by using Blender's shader network. Week of 11/3/23: Armature and IK/FK Controls Assignment: Build dragon armature, create and name your armature controls. Week of 11/10/23: Skinning and Painting Weights Assignment: Bind dragon to armature, paint weights and refine rig. Week of 11/17/23: Animation Tools: Setting Keyframes, Motion Path, Graph Editor Assignment: Start animating dragon walking, flying or moving head. Week 11/31/23: Basic Principles of Animation with a Bouncing Ball Assignment: Complete dragon animation cycle inside 3D environment. Week of 12/06/23: Dynamics, Particles and Effects Assignment: Create a pond, sky, cloud or fire to your environment using Blender effects tools. Week of 12/13/23: Lighting, Rendering Scene and/or Exporting Game Asset Assignment: Add lights or apply HDR to your scene to create mood and atmosphere.

Blender does not require a login or require registration. It is a free open source software that can be used on or offline.
