“All wars occur from a succession of mistakes, usually on both sides, and of no war is that more true than the Second World War” — Michael Korda This class is an engaging introduction to the start of World War II. Our focus will be on the events taking place in the European Theatre. Through interactive and lecture-style learning we will look at the major events, people and decisions that lead to WWII. We will also see how the map of Europe changed as Hitler's Third Reich spread. Students have the opportunity to be hands-on in learning this geography as they color their own map. We will discuss events from the end of WWI through the fall of France to Hitler. Students will engage in the topic through a power point presentation, map activity and class discussion. The goal of this class is to help to take what could be complicated and hard to understand and bring it to life in a simplified form for better understanding. This class is for any student with an interest in the history of WWII, whether you have no knowledge of it or you already have studied it, this class aims to engage and guide you through the important aspects that lead to this monumental conflict. During class my hope is that students will engage in discussions that allow them to think more deeply about events that changed the world forever. Students will get to strategize and think through some what-if's that hindsight affords us. We will look at the war from different sides which will provide students some understanding and empathy as we talk through the historical events. Let's learn history together! Please note this class may go over by 5 or so minutes -- this flexibility is necessary depending on the number of students and in order to allow students time to engage and process what we are discussing. Thank you for your understanding.

Teacher expertise and credentials
I have been studying World War II for years and it is the point in history I personally find most interesting. I have a personal interest as I have grandparents as well as multiple relatives who fought in the war on the American and the German sides respectively. This has allowed me a unique perspective while learning about this time in history. I believe that a knowledge of history empowers the current generation and makes for a wiser more successful future. I am excited to share this passion for a very poignant time in our world's history with your young learner as they too are living during another world-changing time in history.
