Beginner Level
Are you ready to graduate from crayons, markers, and colored pencils to painting? Watercolor is the medium to start with! In this class, we'll learn the basics of painting with watercolors, then use our new skills to create a piece of art together! This class is meant for beginners who have little to no experience with watercolor paints. This one-time class will follow the loose structure outlined below: - Introductions: Learners will meet the teacher and each other, and talk about their favorite type of art to make. - Watercolor Basics: We'll dive right in, learning a few different ways to use their brushes and paints! Learners are encouraged to ask questions about their supplies and the processes that are covered in class. - Step-by-Step Paint Along: Using our skills, we'll make a simple watercolor illustration together in class. Learners will be able to choose from a few subjects and decide on one as a class. - Sharing Our Art: Learners will be given the opportunity to share their paintings with each other at the end of class! If all exercises are completed with time remaining in class, learners will be given the opportunity to paint on their own, as well! Learners should come to class prepared, with their painting supplies at the ready! This includes paints, brushes, water, pencil, and paper towels This allows us to get the most time out of our class, and make as much art as possible!
Learning Goals
Students will learn the basics of watercolor painting, including what makes watercolor unique, different approaches to painting with watercolors, how to dilute or concentrate watercolor paints, and how to make gradients.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Art is a lifelong passion, and my journey with art started in middle school. I have worked in many different media, but my favorites are sketching, drawing, and photography. I’ve been keeping sketchbooks for nearly 20 years, and they’ve helped me document my journey with art, as well as important milestones in my life. I want to help learners find their artistic passion and help them do the same.
