Class Experience

Welcome! Hoşgeldiniz! 
In this one time class, students will be introduced to the country of Turkey and the Turkish language.  This is a basic introductory Turkish class.  
As a class, we will virtually travel to Turkey.  We will discuss Turkey's geography and I will show the class some of Turkey's most famous landmarks.  
Then I will teach the children basic greetings in Turkish like, "Hello", "Goodbye", "Good morning", "Good Evening".  The children will learn how to introduce themselves with the phrase, "My name is...".  
At the end of class I will have each student practice greeting one another and introducing themselves in Turkish.

Students will learn how to greet others and introduce themselves in Turkish.

Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.

Hello there! My name is Janis Gunes.  I am a mother of two and an educator. I have taught children from preschool to middle school. I currently teach English as a foreign language to kids all over the world. 
I am a lover of languages and hold a bachelors degree in Linguistics. I teach introductory classes in linguistics and world languages. Linguistics is the scientific study of language. In my classes we will virtually travel the world and study the world’s languages. 
Language is what connects us all as human beings, it is something that we all share and I truly believe that learning about other cultures and languages is a way to connect ourselves to something outside of our little corner of the world. 
I am also an avid home cook. Connecting people through food is one of my passions. Before the pandemic, I hosted a monthly cooking club for my local community and am excited to open up my kitchen to the Outschool community.  
I normally spend my days homeschooling my two boys and exploring the natural world around us.  I want to raise my children as citizens of the world so we love to travel and experience new places and things.  
Fun fact: I actually learned a new language through travel.  I have been to Turkey 9 times and picked up Turkish, after living in Turkey for a year.
