US Grade 3 - 5
Beginner Level
Come learn how to make beautiful sounds on your recorder! This group class will introduce students to the recorder, and get them started with creating sounds and playing three notes. We will jump right in to creating our own musical ideas and explore the different ways to make sounds on the recorder. Then we will learn three notes, and will echo, improvise and play a song using those notes. We will cover the fundamentals of good technique, and especially how to manage the air - this is the key to an enjoyable recorder experience! Students will have the opportunity to play for the teacher and the group if they would like to, but it will not be required.

Supply List
Soprano Recorder: These are widely available in music stores and online, for an average price of $6.00-12.00. I highly recommend the Yamaha, Angel or Aulos models, and plastic is fine for beginners. It should use "Baroque" fingering. (Most do - but if it says German fingering, do not choose that one.) Westmusic.com has very good options and prices. Regardless of which brand you choose, it is important for what we are going to do that the recorder comes apart into at least two separate pieces (three is also fine). There are adaptive recorders available for people who need different configurations and placements of the holes. If your local store does not have it, I recommend buying that from West Music: Aulos A204AF Soprano Recorder, Adaptive Model
