What will be taught? What do Marvel, Star Wars, Encanto and Titanic have in common? They all started from an idea but an idea isn't a movie. In this course you will learn how Hollywood turns ideas into a feature films. A lot goes into screenwriting before a script is even written. Today we will look at the logline and by the end of the class you will have a logline of your story that you can share to your friends and family! What topics will you cover? We will learn the 3 ACT STRUCTURE ( based on Blake Snyder’s Save the Cat! ) and THE HEROES JOURNEY (based on The Hero's Journey: Joseph Campbell) . These are the basic building block of all movies and stories. Then we will take a look at loglines from Netflix and other streaming platforms. How is your class structured? *Greetings & Favorite Movies: 5mins *Logline examples: 5mins *Movie loglines game, Students try to guess the movie using only the loglines: 15min *Introduction to 3 act structure outline: 10mins *Breakdown of one of student's favorite movies: 5mins *Students write and share their own loglines of their story ideas using a template: 15mins How will you teach? I use a combination of video clips and slides. What's your teaching style? I am very energetic, fun and have been told I'm funny by other students. Screenwriting is my passion and I believe anyone can create an engaging story that could eventually spin off to a career in writing. I like to get the students involved as much as possible and let them figure things out. How much will learners get to interact with you and each other (mention specifics like: lecture, games, slides, video clips, discussion)? The class cannot happen without student participation, It is not a lecture. They co create the topic with me so it's really their class they are doing the critical thinking. I am guiding them along and giving them the tools to succeed. Any required experience or knowledge learners should know? Nope just come with a love for movies and creativity :) Any required experience or knowledge learners need?
