Class Experience

US Grade 4 - 7
Beginner Level
This one-time, group trombone class will support the trombone performer who just got their instrument and is excited for the first day of band. Together, we will:

1. Discuss the case features and how it works
2. Unpack the trombone
3. Identify the parts of the horn and practice taking each one out
4. Learn to handle and assemble the instrument
5. Posture and playing position
6. General maintenance and care (spit valve, slide oil, mouthpiece)
7. Breathing and buzzing
8. Attempting your first notes and fun instrument features
9. How to pack up the horn and close the case
10. How to properly carry and case feature reminders
11. Send off to the first day!

By the end of this class, your trombone musician will be ready for their first day at their ensemble class and begin their journey of lifelong love and learning of music.
Learning Goals
By the end of this class, students will be able to:

     - have a process to set up their instrument 
     - have a process set up personal space and posture
     - describe the basic needs to produce a sound
     - take the steps to produce a sound
     - describe basic care and maintenance needs 
     - store and transport the instrument properly

Pre-Requisites
No trombone or music ensemble performance experience. You will need your trombone instrument and case.

Music stand
Sharpened pencil
Any and all accessories to your instrument (slide oil, cleaning cloth, polishing cloth, paper towel)
External Resources
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
