1-2 hours per week. Each student is expected to spend at least one hour of practice time outside of the weekly session. Class will move forward at the speed of the students, so it is imperative that each student spend time mastering the songs and topics assigned each week.Assessment

In this 8-week course, students will learn the basics of music theory, note reading, writing skills, guitar technique, and how to play 3-4 familiar songs! We will cover: - Parts of the guitar - How to hold the guitar - Finger numbers and how to hold a pick - A simple warm up to use at the beginning of each practice session - How to play a simple song with fret numbers - Rhythm notation: quarter, half, whole notes, and quarter rests. - Musical symbols and writing skills: How to draw a treble clef, staff, and rhythm notes. - How to name all the notes on the fretboard - How to create a major scale using a major scale pattern - Song form: Melody, Harmony, and Lyrics - Basic chords: C, G, D, A, Em, and Am chords - How to play a pop song with the basic chords above Over the course of the 8 week group lessons, students will enjoy a fun and inspiring take on learning the guitar. I will share my experience as a professional musician, introduce students to songs and musicians that they may have never heard before, and demonstrate how learning the guitar can become a fun and rewarding life-long practice. ----- Frequently Asked Questions: Q: What kind of guitar should I get for my child? Please make sure that you can attend all 8 weeks of the course before signing up. Learning Goals
By the end of the 8 weeks, each student should be able to play a single string song, strum chords, read tablature, and play a few of their favorite songs!

Supply List
Students must have their own acoustic or electric guitar at home to participate in this class. It is also recommended that each student have a clip-on tuner and guitar picks. Please come to each class with your guitar ready, as well as a pen and paper to take notes. There may be worksheets that need to be printed out at home for students to use during class and for homework.
