Class Experience

Once upon a time... many young princesses learned how to spend and save their money... in this one time course! Bring your crowns and dress up clothes and lets learn about finance.

This one time course will be an introduction to basics of financial responsibility such as : needs vs. wants, saving vs. spending, income vs. expenses, and budgeting. This is designed to be a fun course to get students interested in the topic. This will not be an in depth lecture into each of these definitions, but rather a fun introduction to help learners start thinking about these ideas. This will be an interactive class. If you have a student who would prefer to not be called on, please let me know before class so that I am aware! I never want to make a student feel uncomfortable if they would prefer to just listen.

-- Rapport building is very important for me to connect with my students and help them to learn as best as possible. Please understand that in my class I will likely ask rapport building questions throughout the lesson to engage students in the material. It will not be 25 minutes of straight lecture. However, it is of course always a priority and requirement for me to be sure we meet the lesson objective.----

Introductions: Students will introduce themselves by saying their name, age, and their favorite princess.

Needs vs. Wants : Students will learn the difference between needs versus wants. We will use a few examples to help students better understand the concept. (ex: If Elsa has ice cream.. is that a need or want? If she is drinking water... is that a need or want? etc.)

Save vs. Spend: We will cover the difference between saving money and spending money. I will ask students to share examples of saving vs spending. We will use a few examples to help students better understand the difference. (Ex : Cinderella has two options : buy a new dress or put her money in a piggy bank. Which one is saving? Which is spending? What do you think the smartest thing for Cinderella to do would be?)

Income vs. Expenses : Students will learn the difference between income and expenses. We will use Princess Belle as an example. I will explain that Princess Belle has a job at the Beast's castle where she earns money. We will discuss some examples of what her income is and what some of her expenses might be.

Budgeting : To wrap up class, students will learn what a budget entails. We are going to go over an example of a budget for Snow White. This will allow students to review the concepts that they have learned such as income vs. expenses, how much Snow White will save, how much she will spend, etc.

****Class times are approximate. Depending on the number of learners and their interaction, class may end a few minutes early or run a few minutes late.***
