Class Experience

This class will provide an overview of the various jobs and career opportunities that are available in the fashion industry. Students will be learning about and exploring specific careers in Fashion Marketing. The fashion marketing careers that we will discuss in this class include: Public Relations, Photographer, Journalist, Model, Stylist, and Illustrator. We will cover the definitions of each career, what to study in college, and what else it takes to obtain a position in each fashion marketing career.

In this class, the students will have many opportunities to engage with the teacher and fellow classmates through in-class participation activities and discussions on the topics covered. During the lecture period of the class will provide students with a brief overview of each of the fashion design production career topics and related areas. Class time will be structured with a short lecture PowerPoint presentation, watching short video clips, followed by any in-class activities, and then will be open for class discussion, or question & answer session.
Learning Goals
Students will be able to receive a broad yet engaging overview of several career opportunities that are available within the fashion industry. Students will also learn which college degree programs are best to take to begin on a path into the fashion industry. More specifically they will be learning the difference between careers that assist in the marketing of fashion.

Teacher expertise and credentials
I think that this is an important class due to the fact that not many people, especially young people know about the various career opportunities within the fashion industry. As a former Program Coordinator of a Fashion Merchandising department, I have worked with students at the college level to decide their career interests, as well as educating them in various fashion studies courses.
