Description
Class Experience
In this project-based four-week course, students will learn to code on the online platform Scratch, a block-based coding program for kids created by MIT. Scratch is an online program where students can program and share interactive media such as stories, games, and animations. Each week students will be introduced to different coding and computational thinking skills and will apply their new knowledge to code their own projects! Each week scaffolds on the previous lesson culminating in a...
This class is taught in English.
Students will learn basic computational thinking concepts such as decomposition and algorithmic thinking. They will learn core coding vocabulary such as algorithm, code/coding, debugging, loops, sequences, and computer programming. Students will learn to think creatively, work collaboratively, and reason systematically while having fun creating their own final project.
I have a decade of online teaching experience and have earned my M.Ed. I have trained teachers on how to be engaging in an online environment. I am currently a Technology Teacher and Technology Integration Specialist at an independent school in NYC where I created my curriculum and teach coding, digital citizenship, technology, and computational thinking to grades Pre-K through 4th Grade.
There will not be any homework assigned. However, students are welcome to work or create projects on Scratch on their own time!
In addition to the Outschool classroom, this class uses:
55 minutes per week in class, and no time outside of class.
Students will be given a Scratch account to log into. Scratch is an OutSchool approved external teaching tool & website.
Students will need to access the Scratch website https://scratch.mit.edu/ This website is free to use and works on a PC, Mac, Tablet, or iPad. If you are having any difficulty accessing the website please let me know via private message!
