Class Experience

Blender is a fantastic tool that is slowly becoming the leading 3d software. Blender used in Unity, 3d modeling, and animation. Many professional studios are now making the switch into Blender. A great example of this is Pixar used Blender to model Mr. Incredible!  

This class is for the those who know Blender and want to dive into 3d character animation. Students need to know Blender in order to take this class, because we will dive straight into animating a skull.

Blender is free to download at https://www.blender.org 

This is a multi-day class where each class is working on a new animation to put in their animation showreel at the end of class. If project not completed that day, then it will be assigned as homework. 

Class 1: Animating skull from Disneyland Pirates of the Caribbean ride
Class 2: Basic standing animation of a bored skeleton 
Class 3: Walk animation of a zombie skeleton
Class 4: Animating "Terminator 2 - Hasta La Vista Baby" scene, intro to mixamo for reference.
Class 5: Action sequence, sticking multiple mixamo reference animation together 
Class 6: Using just a reference video to make an animation 
Class 7: 3D Animation "Never Gonna Give You Up" 
Class 8: Kermit character animation. This is part one of the "Sesame Street Kermit And Cookie Monster And The Mystery Box" animation
Class 9: Cookie Monster animation.  This is part two of the "Sesame Street Kermit And Cookie Monster And The Mystery Box" animation
Class 10: Making an animation showreel to show off what you made

Learning Goals

The end goal is for students to be able to do their own 3d character animations with Blender.

Parental Guidance
Students need to be comfortable with creating accounts to blendswap and mixamo to get free resources.

A computer that is powerful enough to support Blender, download Blender and see if you computer can support it: https://www.blender.org
